16 November || Cleveringa lecture: Smart Urban Solutions for the City of the Future by Prof. Rob Roggema (UTS)
During this year’s Cleveringa lecture, Dutch professor Rob Roggema (UTS) will present on Sydney’s Third City and the propositions for the future of urban life. With an abundance of international examples of designing a city that is climate proof, incorporates sustainable energy usage and features urban agriculture, Roggema will take guests on a journey through the ‘city of tomorrow’. After all, a smart future is only possible if people live in sustainable, climate resilient and convenient cities.
Worldwide, cities are expanding. The concept of ‘Smart Cities’ focuses on building cities of the future by incorporating smart technologies, making our urban environments and communities sustainable and more resilient to (unexpected) change. In Sydney, planning is underway for the so-called ‘Third City’- the precinct in the far west of Sydney, around the second airport that will be built in Badgerys Creek. Smart urban solutions play a key role in this new urban development.
